The Advanced Manufacturing, Industry 4.0 and Robotics Journal List We Give Our Own Clients

Journal and conference list verified as on October 2026.

The call for papers reads: accepted papers will be published in IEEE Xplore and submitted for EI and Scopus indexing. Many manufacturing and robotics authors read that as a promise. It is not one.

IEEE Xplore is a digital library, not a citation index. "Technically co-sponsored by IEEE" means IEEE lent its name, not that the proceedings are indexed. And "submitted for indexing" means someone will send the volume to EI Compendex and Scopus, which then decide on their own, after publication. Plenty of conferences are submitted and never covered.

What you can check before paying is whether earlier volumes of the same series appear in the Scopus source list or in Engineering Village. The conference table on this page lists series with confirmed coverage. For engineering journals, the tables start where a first paper usually lands and work upward to the flagships.

How to read a quartile before you read the list

The Scopus quartile comes from Scimago, inside a Scopus subject category. The JCR quartile comes from Clarivate, using the impact factor. The International Journal of Robotics Research sits at Web of Science Q2 but Scopus Q1, and is among the most respected titles in robotics, which shows how little a quartile alone tells you.

An ESCI journal shows an impact factor and a quartile that look exactly like an SCIE one, so an ESCI Q1 will not satisfy a rule asking for SCIE. Where the tier is not recorded, the tables say so. Settling this first is part of Journal Submission Preparation.

Indexed conference routes in manufacturing and robotics

Robotics is a conference-heavy field, and several series here have long, confirmed coverage. The flagship robotics conferences, ICRA and IROS, do not appear in the source data behind this page, so check their proceedings separately rather than assuming either way.

What manufacturing journals now demand in a data statement

Most publishers on this page now require a data availability statement on every research article. Manufacturing has particular problems with it, because so much data comes from industrial partners.

  1. Industrial data under an agreement. Factory process data, quality records and machine logs usually cannot be released. Say so, name the partner or describe it, and state the confidentiality agreement. That is accepted.
  2. Process parameters. Even when raw data are confidential, the parameters needed to reproduce the process, such as speeds, feeds, laser power and layer thickness, are expected in the paper.
  3. Image datasets for defect detection. If you trained a vision model, deposit the dataset or explain why you cannot, and report class balance. Reviewers now ask.
  4. Code and robot programs. Controllers, planning code and simulation files belong in a repository with a version reference.
  5. CAD and digital twin models. Share geometry where you can. Where the design is proprietary, share a representative case.
  6. Synthetic data. If data were simulated, give the generator and its settings, and test on at least some real data.

Writing the statement properly is part of Manuscript Preparation Support, and the revision round is Review & Response Support.

What gets accepted in this field, and what gets rejected

Likely accepted

  • Real hardware or real factory data.
  • Comparison with a current baseline. Not a method from ten years ago.
  • Repeatability shown. Multiple runs, with variation reported.
  • Industrial constraints respected. Cycle time, cost and safety.
  • Code and parameters shared.
  • A clear gain with its conditions.

Likely rejected

  • Industry 4.0 frameworks with no implementation. Diagrams, not systems.
  • Digital twins that are only simulations.
  • Printing trials with no mechanism. Parameters varied, results tabulated.
  • Robot control shown only in simulation.
  • Deep learning on a tiny defect dataset.
  • Survey papers without a protocol.
Manuscript Health CheckerFind the method and scope problems that cause desk rejections.

What is a realistic review time for a manufacturing research paper?

Two to four months to a first decision at most SCIE titles here, with desk decisions often inside two weeks. A major revision usually needs new experiments and adds two to four months, so six to twelve months from submission to a citable article is normal as on October 2026.

Which manufacturing research journals give a first decision in under two months?

No index publishes verified turnaround times, so no reliable ranking exists and we do not print one. Read the received and accepted dates on three recent articles in each candidate journal. Letter formats such as Additive Manufacturing Letters and the continuously publishing open access titles are structurally the quickest.

Why has my manufacturing research paper been with the editor for six months?

Usually because reviewers with the right hardware expertise declined, and the editor is still looking. Send a polite status enquiry at three months and again at six, and withdraw formally in writing if the answer stays vague.

Which manufacturing research journals are indexed in both Scopus and Web of Science?

Every title in the Web of Science and EI tables here also carries a Scopus quartile, including Science Robotics, the Journal of Manufacturing Systems, Robotics and Computer-Integrated Manufacturing, Additive Manufacturing and the IEEE transactions. Confirm each by ISSN before relying on it.

Can a journal be Scopus indexed but not Web of Science indexed?

Yes. The two databases have separate selection committees. Several Scopus Q1 titles here, including Cognitive Robotics and the Journal of Automation and Intelligence, have no Web of Science tier recorded, so they will not satisfy a rule that names Web of Science.

Which index does my promotion committee actually count for manufacturing research?

Only your institution's written rule answers that. Engineering committees commonly accept SCIE or any Scopus-indexed journal, and some also count EI Compendex. A few, especially in robotics, give credit for top conferences. Get the rule in writing before choosing a venue.

How much does it cost to publish a manufacturing research paper in an indexed journal?

Usually nothing. Every senior SCIE title here is subscription with no APC, and two free titles carry impact factors above 10. Where an APC applies, the range is about 800 to 2,600 US dollars.

Is a Scopus Q3 paper in manufacturing research enough for a PhD submission?

For most universities yes, because the requirement usually names the index rather than the quartile. Some programmes specify Q1, Q2 or SCIE, so get the requirement in writing early.

What editors screen before a reviewer sees your paper

The editorial office checks whether the English is clear enough to review, whether the structure and reference style match the journal, and what the similarity report says. In manufacturing and robotics a further check is common: whether the process parameters or hardware set-up are given in enough detail to repeat the experiment. Run your own overlap check first with the Plagiarism & AI Similarity Checker, and use the AI Journal Finder to confirm the journal's scope matches your abstract before you submit.

Where Research Ramp comes in

We match a finished abstract against live indexing, tell you plainly when a design will not survive the first screen, and prepare the submission so the editorial office has no reason to bounce it. Subject-matched PhD editors, milestone payments, and the author stays the author. Language is Manuscript Editing, partners with factory or lab access are Collaboration Matching, and past work is on our Case Studies page.

Questions we are asked about conference papers

Is an EI Compendex conference paper equal to a journal paper?

Usually not for promotion, but robotics is an exception in practice. Many engineering committees weight SCIE journals above conference papers, while robotics researchers treat selective conferences as serious outputs. Check your rule, and plan a journal extension either way.

Can I extend my conference paper into a journal article?

Yes, and it is standard in robotics and automation. Add roughly a third to a half new material, usually new experiments, a harder test case or a hardware validation, and cite the conference paper in the manuscript and cover letter.

Which conferences are actually indexed?

Only those the index lists, checked volume by volume in the Scopus source list or Engineering Village. The series in the conference table above have confirmed coverage; a call for papers promising to submit for indexing is not the same thing. Thesis, funding and authorship questions sit under Other Academic Support.
